Super Mario Maker 2 Review

We all know and love a small man, who is Italian, works as a plumber and adores mushrooms. Yes, you guessed it, it’s Mario.

On the 28th of June 2019, Nintendo released a new game in the Mario franchise called “Super Mario Maker 2” on the Switch. It consists of creating your own levels with different styles and modes.

Super Mario Maker 2 is better than the original Super Mario Maker, in my opinion, which was introduced to us in 2015 on the Wii U system.

The New Features:

Super Mario Maker 2 added a lot of new features in its new installment:

  • The long awaited slopes
  • The On Off switches
  • Building and playing together with friends
  • New Music And Sound Effects
  • 3D world
  • New enemies
  • Cranes
  • Coopa Troopa Car
  • Dry Bones shell
  • Detailed search
  • Not Only Mario Can Play The Game
  • Story Mode

Slopes

Users all over the world asked for it and here it came into the new “Super Mario Maker 2”. The slopes let you kill enemies while sliding.
To slide you have to move your left analogue stick on the joy-con or on the pro controller downwards.

The On Off Switches

The On Off switches are blocks colored blue or red depending on the switch if it is On or Off.
This will make you open or close paths to the player playing your level.

This new feature will help the maker’s creativity to make brilliant and cool levels.

Building and playing together with friends

You can in Super Mario Maker 2 build levels with friends easily on one screen and each one with a controller. Adding to that with the online feature you can play with online players all over the world two new modes which are the co-op multiplayer mode and versus multiplayer mode.
Co-op mode: You have to work with the other 3 players to arrive to the goal, it doesn’t matter who is the first to the goal, whoever arrives first makes all the team win.
Versus mode: In this mode the four players are against each other, whoever arrives to the goal first wins and the others lose.
The player gains XP each time he wins and loses XP each time he loses.

New Music And Sound Effects

The original Super Mario Maker had a lot of sound effects.
Now with the new Super Mario Maker 2 the developers added new and funny sound effects with cool music to the game that you can use.

3D World

Super Mario Maker 2 comes with new game styles, most importantly the new 3D World where Mario has a new powerup which is Cat Mario.
This new powerup lets Mario climb walls easily and dash to go to far areas.
In the maker menu we can see a blank space next to the 3D World theme, will we see new themes in the coming updates? Let’s wait and see

New enemies

Super Mario Maker 2 introduced new enemies like the Ant Trooper, Piranha Creeper, Cat Bullet Bill etc…

Cranes

Cranes can carry you or even carry enemies.
The crane will let the enemy go once Mario is under it

Coopa Troopa Car

With the new 3D World comes the Coopa Troopa Car.
The coopa troopa car will let you drive through levels and yes, this car can jump. But be careful you can destroy the car if you crash 3 times.

Dry Bones shell

The Dry Bones Shell will let you swim through lava without taking any damage.

Detailed search

Now with the detailed search you can search all Super Mario Maker levels by difficulty or even tag.

Not Only Mario Can Play The Game

Yes that’s right now you can play as Mario, Luigi, Toad or even Toadette.

Floating Lava

You can now make lava float upwards to make your level even more difficult.

Story Mode

Super Mario Bros. started and is well known for the nice story mode that it has from decades.
Princess Peach is in Bowser’s castle and Mario should save her.
But in Super Mario Maker 2 the story mode is a little different, Mario should rebuild Princess Peach’s castle which was destroyed by the “Undo Dog”.
This mode will help players and creators see the strength of the new features in the Super Mario Maker 2 game

Finally I do recommend this game as it is both creative and fun.
Enjoy Guys!
